About Me

Mattie Daniels

I identify as a pansexual/demisexual cis-woman. I'm also a parent of two, neurodivergent brained and polyamorous. I have lived experience with mental illness, substance use, teen-pregnancy and parenting, sex work, non-monogamy, trauma, grief and loss, as well as healing and recovery. I spend my free time cuddling with my cats, attending numerous dance & yoga classes every week and enjoying way too much junk food. I am continuously learning, growing and finding myself every day.

My approach

As a counsellor, I take an integrative, person-centered approach to healing, drawing on a variety of modalities that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that each person has the capacity for growth, self-discovery, and transformation. My therapeutic practice is grounded in the following:

  • Intersectional Feminist Lens: At the core of my approach is an intersectional feminist framework that recognizes how systems of power, privilege, and oppression shape our identities and experiences. I consider how gender, race, sexuality, class, ability, and other intersecting factors influence both mental health and life circumstances. This lens ensures that I honor each client’s unique social, cultural, and personal context, and approach challenges with a deep respect for individual and collective identities. I work to deconstruct harmful societal norms and empower clients to challenge societal structures that may limit their well-being.

  • Neuroaffirmative & Person-Centered : I believe that the therapeutic alliance is fundamental. Creating a safe and supportive environment allows clients to be their authentic selves to explore their inner world without judgment, fostering self-acceptance and personal growth.

  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches: Helping clients cultivate present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, and self-compassion.

  • Trauma-Informed: I acknowledge that trauma, both individual and collective, has a profound impact on mental health. My trauma-informed approach emphasizes safety, empowerment, and choice. I help clients process past experiences while creating a space for healing that respects their pace and individual needs.

Overall, I believe that healing is a dynamic and holistic process. Whether addressing past trauma, current stressors, or long-standing relational patterns, I support clients in navigating their personal journey toward empowerment, resilience, and self-actualization.
