About Me
Mattie Daniels (she/her)
I identify as a pansexual/demisexual cis-woman who is a parent of two and contains a neurodivergent brain. I have lived experience with mental illness, substance misuse, teen-pregnancy and parenting, sex work, non-monogamy, trauma, grief and loss, as well as healing and recovery. I spend my free time cuddling with my cats, attending numerous dance & yoga classes every week and enjoying way too much junk food. I am continuously learning, growing and finding myself every day.

My approach
As a counsellor, I take an integrative and person-centered approach to healing. I draw on a variety of modalities that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that each person has the capacity for growth, self-discovery, and transformation. When connecting with me, you can expect:
-
To be met with a warm and accepting atmosphere where I present my authentic and genuine self.
-
Your autonomy to be supported and respected. Rather than directing or advising, I create a safe, non-judgmental space that encourages exploration for you to reflect, choose, and act in ways that align with your own values and goals.
My therapeutic practice is grounded in the following:

-
An Intersectional Feminist Lens: At the core of my approach is an intersectional feminist framework that recognizes how systems of power, privilege, and oppression shape our identities and experiences. I consider how gender, race, sexuality, class, ability, and other intersecting factors influence both mental health and life circumstances. This lens ensures that I honour each client’s unique social, cultural, and personal context, and approach challenges with a deep respect for individual and collective identities. I work to deconstruct harmful societal norms and empower clients to challenge societal structures that may limit their well-being.
-
Mindfulness-Based Approaches: These approaches cultivate present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, and self-compassion.
-
Trauma-Informed: I acknowledge that trauma, both individual and collective, has a profound impact on mental health. My trauma-informed approach emphasizes safety, empowerment, and choice. Clients are able to process past experiences in a way that respects their pace and needs, reconnects with them with their strengths and empowers them to define their own narratives so they can move towards meaningful change.
Overall, I believe that healing is a dynamic and holistic process. Whether addressing past trauma, current stressors, or long-standing relational patterns, I support clients in navigating their personal journey toward empowerment, resilience, and self-actualization.
